Udine Vicina: The app for citizens & tourism in Udine

The Goal.
A mobile App and Web site for tourism promotion of the city of Udine that can use content already on several other pre-existing Web sites, integrate interactive services, and connect with street furniture via QR-codes.
The Issue.
Every art city deserves its own tourism promotion App dedicated to building relationships with citizens and tourists. However, the city typically does not have the budget to maintain an active editorial staff capable of keeping content updated over time.
The Solution.
We identified possible content provider partners (museums, trade associations, tourism promotion bodies, mobility management companies, package and bike sharing, universities, etc.) and used an automatic content acquisition system (via web scraping, rss, web service). All partner sites are monitored daily, and all content is reformatted in real time and re-inserted within the new App and related website so that it appears with a uniform layout.
Of course, the ability of publishing content manually through the CMS remains active.
Showcase.
Desktop & mobile.

A collaborative network of
content and services.
Citizens.
Citizens are provided with the sections with more practical, daily-use information related to the city, such as the Smart City section (information on SAF services, free parking stalls in the facility, location and availability of bicycles in the city's bike stations, etc.), News, Infotraffic, Children's section, Sports, with Udinese and GSA Basketball news, and Health;
Contents.
The app also contains a Map with all geolocated points of interest, with information on Accessibility and Around Me functionality that allows you to find points of interest closest to your location, Shopping section with stores of the city centre, Dining with description of restaurants and venues in Udine, Hospitality that links to Turismo FVG's reservation system, Cinema and Theater with schedules and programming of upcoming shows.
Tourists.
For people interested in tourism in Udine, a whole range of information is available for discovering the city: first of all, a series of thematic routes, in which three different historical figures linked to the city serve as guides, and also geographical routes, in which the different areas of the city are presented with numerous points of interest to explore.
Partner.
All this was made possible by the many partners involved such as CSS Teatro Stabile, Teatro Giovanni Nuovo da Udine, CEC e Visionario, Accademia Nico Pepe, Vicino Lontano, Turismo FVG, Udinese Calcio, GSA Basket, NET, Bike Sharing, SSM, SAF, Polizia Locale, Udin-รจ, Udine Cultura, Confcommercio.
Three companions
on the journey.

For a city more connected & transparent

Many features.
The most important ones.
Qr Code.
The QR reader allows you to read the codes on the cards placed at points of interest, this allows you to receive more in-depth information about the guided thematic routes.
Infoparking.
Another useful feature is the ability to check the availability of parking spaces in real time; it lets you know when parking spaces are open or closed and what spaces are available.
Waste Management.
Through the application, citizens can access NET services. In addition, everyone can use "where do I throw it?" the service that tells you how to dispose of waste properly.
Bike sharing.
In addition to the tourist routes, points where to rent a bike with the Bike Sharing service are indicated. Availability is updated in real time on the app.
Around me
The app has 3 sections: Shopping, Dining, and Routes, each of which contains points of interest that are geolocated on a map.
The points can be filtered by category (museums, churches, stores, etc) and by accessibility (for users with mobility impairments). In addition, the Around me feature allows you to identify which points of interest are near you.

Open data
Understanding the evolution of the city and understanding the actions of public administration becomes easier. Through the OpenData displayed in an understandable way within the App and through the specific OpenDataUdine project visible on this page.

Infotraffic
All traffic information, road anomalies, speed cameras and alerts from the Police Command are automatically available in UdineVicina.
